The TAIC holding started producing jeep-like vehicles in 1952, which were followed in the 1970s and 1980s with the Tianjin TJ 210 and TJ 211 models. Numerous prototypes of passenger vehicles were con­structed between 1958-75. Microbuses were produced here between 1965-2001, and from the 1970s to 2001 - delivery trucks. From October 1986 to September 2002, TAIC produced Xiali passenger cars at its Tianjin Mini Auto Works branch (since 1997 - Tianjin Automotive Xiali). In September 2002, FAW to­ok over 50.98% of the shares in Tianjin Automotive Xiali and renamed it Tianjin FAW Xiali Automobile, with the trademark changed to FAW Tianjin. The Xiali TJ 730, under the Daihatsu Charade 1983-87 license, was produced between 1986-88. The TJ 7100 hatchback was produced between 1988-2000, and the TJ 7100U sedan under the Cherade 1987-93 license - between 1991-2000. The radically restyled Xiali se­ries now comprising TJ 7101 hatchbacks (until 1999 as the TJ 7100A, with a993-ccm 53 hp engine, ma­ximum speed 138 km/h) and the TJ 7131 (since 2001, with a 1342-ccm 86 hp unit, 165 km/h), the TJ 7101U (until 1999 as TJ 7100AU, with a 1342-ccm 53 hp plant, maximum speed 138 km/h) and the TJ 7131U sedans (until 2000 as TJ 7130AU, with a 1,342-ccm 86 hp unit, 165 km/h) came out in 1997. The 8-cm-longer TJ 7101L and TJ 7131L hatchbacks came out in 2000. The restyled new A series Xiali ve­hicles with a new body front were released in 2001. The series comprises the TJ 7101A (a 993-ccm 53 hp plant), TJ 7111A (since April 2004, 1052- ccm 58 hp plant), TJ 7131A (1342-ccm 86 hp unit) hatch­backs, and the TJ 7101AU (a 993-ccm 53 hp plant), TJ 7111 AU (since April 2004, with a 1052-ccm 58 hp plant), TJ 7131AU (a 1342-ccm 86 hp unit) sedans. The Xiali N3 sedan and hatchback with a 993-ccm 53 hp, a 1052-ccm 58 hp, or a 1342-ccm 86 hp engine, came out in August 2004. The Xiali 2000-TJ 7136U sedan under the license of the 1999 Toyota Platz was produced from December 2000 to March 2004, and the Yaku CA 7136U, also under the the license of the 1999 Toyota Platz - from October 2002 to April 2004. Production of the Wizi hatchback under the license of the toyota Vitz, in the CA 7106 (a 998-ccm 69 hp engine, 155 km/h) or the CA 7136 (a 1342-ccm 86 hp plant, 152 km/h) versions, started in December 2002. The Vela CA 7156U sedan with a 1.5-liter 92 hp unit and the body from the Toyota Platz (restyling in 2003) was introduced in February 2004. The C1 hatchback with a 1.3-liter or a 1.6-liter en­gine, and the D1 sedan with a 1.6-liter or a 1.8-liter engine, debuted at the 2005 Shanghai Motor Show. The C1 is to be produced as of July 2006, and the D1 - as of 2007.
