Founded in July 1953, the China First Automobile Group Corp. (official name until 1992 - First Auto Works) has been producing Jiefang trucks since July1956. In 1958, the first Dongfeng CA 71 and Hon-gqi CA 72-IE limousines were manufactured here. Production of the Hongqi CA 72 model started in September 1959. In September 1965, it was replaced with the Hongqi CA 770, since 1992 called the CA 7560 and offered until 2001. Series production of its successor - the streamlined, 6-seat Hongqi CA 7460 L3 Qijian limousine with a 4.6-liter 215 hp engine (maximum speed 185 km/h) started in November 1998. Two 8-seat, extended versions came out in 2000: the CA 7460 L1 Qijian and CA 7460 L2 Qijian (maximum speed 168 km/h), extended by 100 and 135 cm, respectively. The FAW Hongqi CA 7220 series has been produced since 1993. Since March 2004, it has comprised only the 5-seat CA 7180 A3E Mingshi limousine with a 1.8-liter 95 hp engine (170 hp /h). The model replaced the CA 7180 A2E Mingshi and CA 7180 A2EL1 Mingshi versions of 2001-04. Production of the radically restyled (as compared to the CA 7220) Shijixing (Century Star) series started in September 2000. The series comprises the 5-seat CA 7202 E3 limousine and the 32-cm-extended 4+2-seat limousine, and the CA 7202 E3L (all with 2.0-liter 125 hp engines by Nissan, maximum speed 175 km/h). The Shijixing version with a 2.4-liter 150 hp V6 power plant by Audi, the CA 7242 E6 (maximum speed 190 km/h), and the 32-cm-longer CA 7242 E6L (maximum speed 190 km/h) came out in 2003. The Hongqi HQ3 with a 4.3-liter 231 hp V6 plant by Toyota, the Hongqi HQD with a 6.0-liter V12 plant, and the C 304 hatchback with a 1.3-liter or a 1.5-liter, debuted at the 2005 Shanghai Motor Show. The Hongqi HQ3 is to be produced as of 2006, the Hongqi HQD - as of 2008, and the C 304

- as of August 2006, under a new make. The FAW Car Co. Ltd. - a FAW branch established in 1997

- intends to produce 100,000 Hongqui cars in 2010.
