Founded in 1969, Dongfeng Motor Corporation
(called Second Auto Works until 1992) started producing trucks in 1974 and passenger Shen-long
hatchbacks in cooperation with Dongfeng--Citroën (see - Shenlong
and Dongfeng Citroën) in 1992. In September 2002, Donngfeng Motor
Corporation and Nissan established a 50% / 50% partnership under the Dongfeng
Motor Co. Ltd name, which continues production of the Dongfeng, Chen-glong,
Wuhan, etc. vehicles, and which started producing the passenger vehicles under
the Nissan make in June 2003. At the 1999 Beijing Motor Show, Dongfeng presented its own 5-seat,
5-door EQ 7100 / EQ 7101 hatchbacks with a 993-ccm 52 hp engine (maximum speed 135 km/h) and the EQ 7080 hatchbacks with a
796-ccm 40
hp
engine (maximum speed 127 km/h), which went into series production in December 2000, also in the sedan
body version. Since 2002, the Chenglong Fengxing (Futurer) LZ 6460 Q7-Q9 / LZ 6500 Q7-Q9 minivans with a 2.0-liter
109 hp or a 2.0-liter 111 hp engine have also
been sold under the Dongfeng name. The restyled Fengxing LZ 6460 Q8 / Fengxing LZ 6500 Q8 versions with a
2.4-liter 126 hp engine came out in 2003. Chinese competition for the American Hummer - the Dongfeng EQ 2050 / EQ 2058
Tiejia - was presented at the
2002 Beijing Motor Show.
The vehicle with a 140 hp unit (EQ 2050) or a 6.5-liter 195 hp unit (EQ 2058), has been produced since 2004 in the estate,
cabrio, 5-seat pick-up and pick-up body versions. The 5-seat EQ 1021 Xingtianyou pick-up
(with a 92
hp
engine) has been produced since May 2001. In May 2005, the new 50% / 50% partnership between
Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Yuan Group, under the Dongfeng Yuan Automobile
Co. Ltd. name, launched the small Xiaokang EQ 6380 LF minivan with a 970-ccm 68 hp, a 1051-ccm 52 hp, a 1310-ccm 82
hp, or a 1320-ccm 69 hp engine. In 2003, Dongfeng produced 473,012 Dongfeng utility vehicles and Dongfeng, Dongfeng
Citroën, Shenlong and Nissan passenger cars.
