In April 2001, Chongqing Changan Auto Co., Ltd (58% of shares belong to Changan Automobile Group) and Ford established a 50% / 50% part­nership called Changan Ford Automobile. Since August 2004, the new division of the company is as follows: Changan 54.1%, Ford 33.4% and Maz­da 12.5%. Production of the Fiesta sedan with a 1.6-liter 92 hp engine, based on the Indian Ford Ikon, started in January 2003. SKD assembly (CKD assembly since March 2004) of the Taiwan Mondeo se­dan, restyled in February 2004, with a 2.0-liter 143 hp or a 2.5-liter 173 hp V6 engine, started in May 2003. In August 2005, the new plant in Nanjing started production of the Focus sedan with a 1.8-liter 132 hp plant. Eventually, 300,000 Ford passenger cars are to be produced annually.
