Production volume in 2003 - 224,826 minivans and 52,738 pick-ups. Changan
Machinery Manufactury, founded in 1862, (since 1995 - Changan Automobile Group, since 1998 - present name), which
back in 1958
presented
a prototype of the Progress limousine and between 1958-62 produced the
Changjiang 46 jeep cars, signed a license contract with Suzuki in 1983. Between 1983-2000 the firm produced SC
1010X/SC 6320
pick-ups
and minivans under the
Suzuki Carry ST 90VT 1979-85 license, between 1993-2003 - the SC 6330 minivans under the
Suzuki Carry SK 410VT
1985-98
license,
between 1996-2002
- the
SC 1014X / SC 6331 minivans based on
the SC 1010X / SC 6320 models, and between 2001-2003 - the SC 6336 minivans based on
the SC 6320.
The
new, 7-seat CM 6 minivans
in the SC 6372 (a 970-ccm 50 hp engine) / SC
6372A (a 797-ccm 39 hp engine) versions of November 2003 are based on the old SC 6336. The program still
includes the 4-seat SC 1015 pick-ups (original name - the SC 1011EG / SC 1011DG) and the 2-seat
SC 1011
pick-ups
(all based on the SC 6331 minivan), and since 2002 - the SC 1016 mini-vans (based on the SC 6336 minivan). The
completely new, 7-seat Zhixing (Star) SC 6350, minivan, under the Suzuki Carry
1999 license, debuted at
the 1999
Beijing
Motor Show. Since 2003, it has been offered in the SC 6350C version with a 1012-ccm 53 hp
engine (maximum speed 105 km/h). The 7 / 8-seat Zhixing (Star) SC 6350B version and the
SC 6371
with
new bumpers and 1012-ccm 53 hp and 1.3-liter 82 hp power plants (maximum speed 105-135 hp /h) came out in 2002. In 2001, the
Zhixing (Star)
series was extended with the SC 1020 / SC 1022 BB13D / SC 1022 BA13D pick-ups, in 2002 - with the 4-seat SC 1022 BB 23D pick-
ups, and in 2005 - with the 8-seat,
taller S. C. 6391 with a 1.0-liter 53 hp unit. The 5/ 8-seat Snow Tiger SC 6370 minivan with oval
headlights and a 1.3-liter 82 hp engine, restyled in comparison with the Zhixing SC 6350, came out at the end
of 2001.
The
next 8-seat minivan, the Xingyun (Star Rhyme) SC 6360 (with a 1012-ccm 53-61 hp or a 1.3-liter 82 hp plant) based on
the Zhixing SC 6350, and the Jiexun concept car, debuted at the 2003 Shanghai Motor Show. The
original, 7-seat Leimeng (Raimondi) CM 7-SC 6381 minivan with a 1012-ccm 53 hp or a 1310-ccm 82 hp engine debuted in
November 2003.
The
average-sized 5 / 7-seat CM8-S. C. 6380 minivan with a 1.3-liter 82 hp or a 1.6-liter 98 hp unit, and two
concept cars: the Longteng (Chinese Dragon) cabrio and the Changjiangxun
(Chinese Sturgeon) coupe debuted at the 2004 Beijing Motor Show. The Yufeng
(Drive Wind) with a 2.0-liter engine, to be produced as of the end of 2005, debuted at the 2005 Shanghai Motor Show.
In 1997,
Changan
took over Anhui Huaihai, which produced the competitive Feihu HH minivans
starting in 1978, in 1998 - Shengli, in May 2000 - Dongfeng Nanjing (now the Nanjing Changan branch), and
at the beginning of 2005 - 41% of the shares in Jian-gling Motors. Changan minivans and pick-ups have
been assembled in Bangladesh since 1998, in Turkey, Nepal and Indonesia since 2001, since 2003 - in Vietnam, and
since 2005
- in
Pakistan. In 2002, Changan and its branches produced 406,861 vehicles (in 2010, production volume is
planned for one million vehicles).
