have been produced by Shanghai VW. In 1995, SAIC signed a contract to
produce Buick cars in China, hence establishing the 50% / 50% partnership of
SAIC with GM, called the Shanghai GM, in May 1997. Pilot production of the Buick
G/GL/GS sedan cars, called Shanghai GM, started in December 1998, and se-

ries production - at the beginning of 1999. In 2002, Shanghai GM (50%) and GM China (25%) as well as SAIC (25%) took over
Yantai
Bishop Corp, which since December 2002 has been called Shanghai GM Dongyue Motors Co.,
Ltd. Since 2004, 50% of Jinbei GM Automotive Co., Ltd. has belonged to Shanghai GM, 25% to GM China, and 25% to SAIC. Between
1992-2004, Jinbei GM produced
three consecutive generations of the Blazer SUV and S10 pick-up Chevrolet cars.
Since August 2004, Jinbei GM has been called Shanghai GM (Shenyang) Norsom Motors Co. In
December 2002,
the
Buick G/GL/GS was replaced with the Regal sedan, for the first time under the
Buick make, not that of Shanghai GM. The vehicle is offered with a 2.0-liter 124 hp engine (170 km/h), a 2.5-liter 152 hp
unit (173 km/h), and a
3.0-liter 171 hp V6 plant (200 km/h). Production of the 6 /8-seat Buick GL8 minivan (a 3.0-liter 171 hp V6 engine, 168 km/h)
under the
Shanghai GM make, started in December 1999, and since 2005 - under the Buick make. Since
September 2004, the vehicle has been produced at the Shanghai GM (Shenyang) Norsom
Motors Co. branch. The resyled, luxurious GL8 FirstLi came out it April 2005. The small Shanghai
GM Buick Sail SGM 7160 sedan, based on the Brasilian Chevrolet Corsa, debuted in October 2000. Trial production
started in December 2000, and series production -in April 2001. At the end of 2001, the Sail S-RV station wagon
came out. The Sail and Sail S-RV have been produced by the Shanghai GM
Donngyue Motors branch under the Buick make since April 2003, and since February 2005 - under the Chevrolet
make. Production of the Excelle sedan under the Buick make (not the Shanghai
GM) started in April 2003. The vehicle, with a 1.6-liter 106 hp and a 1.8-liter 118 hp engine (180-175 km /h), is based on
the Daewoo Lacetti. The Excelle HRV hatchback with a 1.6-liter 106 hp plant was
introduced in October 2004. The Royaun sedan with a 2.8-liter or a 3.6-liter 258 hp engine debuted in
December 2004
and
went into production in May 2005. Plans for the future: 2006 - Regal’s
successor.
