Production volume in Argentina in 2003 -19,370 passenger vehicles.
In the years 1916-82 Dodge, Plymouth,
Chrysler and Valiant cars were released in Argentina, till 1959
by Fevre y Basset Ltds. and from 1959 by Chrysler Fevre
S.A. (from 1962 the cars were actually
manufactured there.) In the years 1978-80 the manufacturing
company was gradually taken over by
VW (from 40% in 1978 to 96% in 1980), which changed its name to VW
Argentina S.A. In 1983 the
first Argentinian VW Gacel was unveiled. In the
years 1995-2003
the
company produced the VW Golf.
In 1995 the program expanded with the introduction of
the VW Polo Classic (=Seat Cordoba
1993-2002), with the following engines:
1.6-liter 90 hp, 1.8-liter 105 hp, diesel 1.9-liter 64 hp or
TD 1.9-liter 90 hp. The model is exported to
Mexico as the Derby (1.8-liter 90 hp or 2.0-liter 115 hp).
Between 1999-2002 Seat cars were
manufactured in Argentina.
