Production volume in 2003 - 6,925 Daewoo vehicles
(CKD/SKD sets not included) and 288 Polonez vehicles. Fabryka Samochodow Osobowych
(Passenger Car Factory) - FSO was established in 1949, to release vehicles under Fiat
license. On 6 November
1951 the company started
the assembly of the FSO M20 Warszawa, based on the GAZ M20 Pobieda. Subsequent
FSO Warszawa models included the following: 200 (1960), 201 (1960-64), 202
(1963-64), 203/204 (1964-68), 223/224 (1968-February 1973). The FSO Syrena, which premiered
in 1955,
went
into series production in 1957. The FSO Syrena range comprised: 100 (1960), 101
(1960-62), 102 (1962-63), 103 (1963-66), 104 (1966-72) and 105 (1972). In 1972 FSM took over Syrena
production. In the years 1963-65 the company
built and sold 20 units of the modernized Syrena 110. On 28 November 1967 the assembly of the
Polish Fiat 125p was initiated, and shortly afterwards its production was
started (from 1983 to April 1991 the vehicle was released as the FSO 1300/1500). Between 1973 and 1986, the following models
of Polish Fiats were assembled: 127p, 132p, 128 Sport Coupe, 128 3P, 130p 131p, Argenta, Ritmo and Zastava 1100p. In
November 1977 trial production of
the FSO Polonez hatchback was launched and 2 May 1978 marked the beginning of its
series production. The model gave way to the FSO Polonez Caro in 1991. In 1996 the Polonez Atu
sedan was introduced, and Polonez became the brand name, replacing the FSO
label. In 1997 the public saw the debut of the restyled Polonez Caro Plus and Atu
Plus. As early as 1995 the prototype of the Polonez Kombi was
demonstrated, to be released in the years 1999-2002. In April 2002 the production of
Polonez models was terminated. In March 1996 Daewoo concern took over 10% of FSO shares in
Warsaw (increasing its stake to 81.9% in 1997, later to 88.67%, finally becoming 80% owner in 2003). The newly formed
Daewoo-FSO partnership assembled the following Daewoo models: Tico (1996-2001), Espero (1996-1999), Leganza (1997-2001) and
Tacuma (2000-01) and produced the
Nubira in the years 1997-2002. The Lanos was introduced in 1997 and in 1998 - the Matiz (both still in production). In
September 2004 the company’s name was again changed from
Daewoo-FSO to FSO and the brand name from Daewoo to FSO. Daewoo FSO in Nysa
assembled the Citroën C15 between 1995 and 2001 and in the years 1998-2001 - the Citroën Berlingo.
