Independent firm Universal, opened in April 1954, assembled passenger vehicles and trucks by Mer-cedes-Benz from October 1955 until 1970, launching in 1972 production of Nissan cars. The current program includes the Patrol with a 4.5-liter or D 3.0-liter 155 hp engine (=Japanese Safari/Patrol GR 1997) and Frontier 4x2/4x4 pick-up fitted with a diesel 2.7-liter 84 hp or 3.2-liter 103 hp unit (=Japanese Pickup 2001). The second firm, Nissan Motor Philippines, established in 1982 (since 1999 75% of this firm’s shares have belonged to the Taiwanese firm Yulon), launched production of the Nissan Stanza in September 1983. In the years 2000-2004 Sentra Exalta STA/SLA (=Yulon Sentra HV 1998-2000) vehicles rolled off assembly lines. Built starting in 2001, the Sentra Exalta HS was replaced by the newest Sentra model in February 2004 and fitted with 1.3-liter 95 hp; 1.6-liter 116 hp or 1.8-liter 131 hp engines (=Yulon Sentra M1 ‘2003). The Cefiro launched in 1996 was replaced with the newest generation Cefiro (= Yulon Cefiro SD of 2000-2004) in June 2002 with 2.0-liter 165 hp or 3.0-liter 220 hp units. In July 2003 production of the X-Trial SUV (2.0-liter 150 hp or 2.5-liter 180 hp) began - the model was then restyled in April 2005. In 2001 production of the Vanette Coach minivan was terminated, following in 2002 by the AD Resort pick-up and the Terrano SUV in 2003.
