SUZUKI ALTO
Models produced in Pakistan:
Mehran, Alto, Cultus, Baleno, Potohar, Bolan, Ravi pick-up.
Production volume in Pakistan in 2003 - 47,373 passenger cars and 1,782 pick-ups. Based on
the agreement between PAK and Suzuki companies, the assembly of the Suzuki SS80
started in 1982 at the Awami Auto Ltd. plant. In August 1983 a new Pak Suzuki joint venture
was established. In 1992 Suzuki increased its share in the firms stock from the initial 25 % to 40 %, in 1996 - to 72,8 %,
and in 2001 - to 73,09 %. The produced since 1988 (till 1992 under the name Alto)
and restyled in 1998 and 2004 of the Mehran (0.8-liter 40 hp engine) was designed on the basis Japanese Suzuki
Alto of 1985-90.
In
September 2000 a new, small Alto, equipped with a 1.0-liter 55 hp engine, was
unveiled. In 2000 the old Khyber hatchback was replaced with the Cultus model, known in
Europe as the Hungarian Swift of

SUZUKI BALENO
1992-2003 and furnished with a 1.0-liter 55 hp unit. In 1998 the restyled in 2002 and 2004 sedan
Baleno was introduced, equipped with 1.3-liter 85 hp or 1.6-liter 105 hp power plants.
Potohar, available with a 1.0-liter 50 hp engine, is identical to the Spanish Suzuki
Samurai produced in 1985-2003, and the mi-nivan Bolan as well as the pick-up Ravi, equipped with a
0.8-liter 37 hp, are two versions of the same old Super Carry minivan. The firm aims
at yearly production of 100,000 in Pakistan.
