Since 1968 Toyota has assembled in Portugal all kinds of
vehicles: passenger cars, trucks and all-terrain. In recent years the
percentage of European components used in those cars was 40%. Till the year 1994 the Corolla and Land
Cruiser were built in Portugal, replaced by the new Hiace a year later. The
Hiace is offered as a truck or as a 6- or 9-person minivan. Engines available: a
2.4-liter 116 hp petrol unit and two diesels 2.4-liter generating 79 and 90 hp. Including
trucks, there were 3,587 Toyota vehicles produced in Portugal in 2002.
