Production volume in The Netherlands in 2003 - 74,728 vehicles.
Established in 1928, DAF company has been producing
trucks since 1938, and in the years 1958-75 also DAF passenger vehicles. In January 1973 - 33%, and in 1975 - 75% of the
passenger car
division was bought by Volvo. In 1975 the name was changed to Volvo Car B. V, with the last
DAF 66 renamed Volvo 66. In the following
years the company was taken over by the government, which also acquired 33% of the newly
established NedCar company in December 1991. The remaining shareholders
were: Volvo - 33% and Mitsubishi - also 33% of the shares. In February 1999 Volvo and Mitsubishi increased
their shares to 50%, and in March 2001 Mitsubishi became the sole owner of the NedCar. In the years 1995–2003 the Cari-sma
model was produced. In 1998 a minivan called
Space Star went into production. In April 2004 the production of a 5-door Colt
hatchback started in the Netherlands; the car came with the following petrol
engines: 1.1-liter 75 hp; 1.3-liter 95 hp; 1.5-liter 109 hp or with a 1.5-liter 68-95 hp diesel unit. In January 2005 a 3-
door coupe Colt CZ3 (power
plants from the CZ5) and the CZT model equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter 150 hp engine were introduced.
In the years 1975-2004 the company manufactured Volvo vehicles.
