SCOA Motors began the assembly of the Peugeot 404 in 1963. In December 1972 the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria company was established, 40% of its shares belonging to the French. Peugeot Nigeria launched the assembly in March 1975 and in 1993 the production (with more than 50% of locally produced components) of the following models: 504 Saloon sedan and 504 Wagon estate version (in 1968-83 production was located in France), equipped with 1.8-liter 70 hp or 2.0-liter engines (top speed of 144-170 km/h). In 1998 the Nigerian 306 sedan, equipped with 1.4-liter 73 hp or 1.8-liter 97 hp plants (top speed of 165-184 km/h), joined the product range, and in 1999 - the 406 sedan with 1.8-liter 97 hp or 2.0-liter 125 hp units. The assembly of 307 and 407 models is scheduled to begin in Nigeria in 2006.
