Established in September 1961, Nissan Mexicana began the assembly of the Bluebird and
Pickup Dat-sun models in the Willys manufacturing site in Mexico in the same
year, and in 1966 -production was relocated to the company’s
own plant. In 1981 the trademark was changed to Nissan. The production of the Tsuru sedana
started in 1984, and in 1991 of its III generation (the same as the American Sentra of 1990-94). The vehicle,
restyled in November 2004, is offered with a 1.6-liter 105 hp engine. In 2002 the Platina sedan was
introduced, available with a 1.6-liter 110 hp engine and made on the basis
of the Renault Clio Symbol. Since 2000 a brand new, restyled in 2003 Sentra has been
available, fitted with the following power plants: 1.8-liter 126 hp, 2.0-liter 165 hp and since 2001 - 2.5-liter 177 hp (SE-
R Spec V
version). The Pickup (2.4-liter 143 hp), based on the Japanese Pickup D 21 ‘1985-98, has been produced in Mexico since the
1980s. The production of
the Tsubame station wagon ended in 2003.
