The Automex company started the assembly of
Dodge and De Soto vehicles in Mexico in 1938, and shortly thereafter of
Chrysler cars. In 1971 Chrysler took over Automex and changed its name to Chrysler de Mexico,
and in 1999
- to
DaimlerChrysler de Mexico. The Neon model was manufactured here in 1994-99, the Stratus in 1995-2000, and since 1995 - the
Ram pick-ups.
Since September 2001 a brand new generation of these cars has been available (3.7-liter 215 hp V6; 4.7-liter 235 hp V8; 4.7-
liter 345 hp V8 engines), also
as a 5-seat Quad Cab. In 2002 the Ram 2500/3500 with a 5.7-liter 345 hp V8 engine or the Cummins
5.9-liter 325 hp turbo diesel versions were introduced. The original Ram Charger SUV
was produced here in the years 1985-2001 in two consecutive generations. Since the end of
2003, un-der the Dodge
trademark, the following Hindu Hyundai models have been sold in Mexico: the Atos
(=San-tro with a 1.4-liter
55 hp engine) and the
Verna (=Accent with 1.5-liter
90 hp or 1.6-liter 104 hp plants).
