Automex started the assembly of Dodge and De
Soto vehicles in Mexico in 1938, and shortly thereafter of Chrysler cars. In 1971 Chrysler took over
Automex and changed its name to Chrysler de Mexico, and in 1999 - to DaimlerChrysler
de Mexico. Chrysler vehicles have also been produced since 1968 by the engine
factory Cempleyo Automotriz Chrysler, established in 1964. The avant-guarde PT Cruiser
model has been produced exclusively in Mexico since the end of 1999, and as of the end of
2003 - the PT Cruiser
Convertible.
