GM established GM de Mexico in 1935, and in 1937 initiated the production of Chevrolet cars in Me­xico. Since1995 the old Opel Corsa has been produced there under the name Chevrolet Chevy. The vehicle, restyled in 2003 and equipped with a 1.6-liter 95 hp engine, is called Chevy C 2, and is ava­ilable either as a 3/5-door hatchback or sedan. In 1999 the production of a new 4x4 Suburban SUV, available with 5.3-liter 295 hp; 6.0-liter 325 hp or 8.1-liter 320 hp power plants, began in Mexico. The vehicle was modernized in Mexico in December 2003, although in the USA the old version is still produced. Since March 2001, only the 5-seat pick-up, made as a sedan under the name Avalanche, has been manufactured, and feature a 5.3-liter 295 hp or a 8.1-liter 320 hp engine. The production of Silverado pick-ups was terminated in Mexico in 2002. From 1994 till December 2004 the Cavalier model was produced.
