Production volume in Japan in 2003 - 684,886 passenger cars
(excluding the Super Carry and cars produced under the Mazda, Nissan and
Chevrolet makes). The Suzuki Loom Works weaving machine production plant,
operating since 1909, in 1954 changed its name to the Suzuki Motor Co. and started the production of
Suzuki motorcycles. In 1995 the first passenger car debuted - the Suzulight 360, and in 1970 - the cross-country
Jimny 360
LJ 10. In 1968, the concern took
over a Japanese company producing off-road vehicles - the Hope Motor Company, in 1992 - 50% of the Maruti shares
(in 2002,
the share
was increased to 54.2%), and in 1993 - 35% of the
shares in the Chinese Changan Suzuki company.

Suzuki shares has belonged to GM. Suzuki cars are presently produced / assembled in Japan,
Spain (since 1985), Hungary (since 1992), Poland (since 2005), Canada (1989-2004), Korea (since 2003), India (since 1983

Maruti-Suzuki make), Pakistan (since 1982), Taiwan (since 1990), Thailand (since 1980), Indonesia (since 1975), Egypt (since
1989), Myanmar (since 1999), Vietnam (since 1998, pick-ups since 1996), Argentina (since 2000)and, Brazil (since 2003)and
Philipines
(since 1980).
In 2003, the production of
Suzuki cars was terminated in Malaysia. In Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador and
Argentina (since 2000), Suzuki cars are produced under the Chevrolet make. In August 2000 the production of
the Suzuki Wagon R+ under the Chevrolet MWS name started in Japan, and in
September 2001 - of the Suzuki Ignis under the Chevrolet Cruze name. Additionally, Daewoo
cars are produced under the Suzuki license, (Damas and Labo models), the Thai
Ford PR-Z and the Chinese: Changan, Changan Suzuki, Changhe, Changhe Suzuki,
Hanjiang and Hafei.
