Production volume in Japan in 2003 - 455,483 passen­ger vehicles (excluding CKD sets). Established in 1884 (by 1893 known as the Nagasaki Shipyard), Mitsubishi produced a passenger Model A car already in the years 1917-21. Since 1918, Mitsubishi trucks have been produced, and since 1953 - Jeep vehicles under the Willys license. Passenger cars were re-released for a short time in the years 1935-36 with the 4x4 PX 33 model, in the years 1951-55 passenger Henry J sedan cars were assembled, and for the fourth ti­me, in 1959, with the famous Mitsubishi 500. In 1970, the Mitsubishi Motors Corp. branch was separated from

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. MMC owned 7.93% shares of Perusahaan ONB / Proton in the years 1983-2004. In 2000, DaimlerChrysler took over 34% of Mitsubishi Motors Corp. shares (since 2001 - 37.3%, since 2004

- 24.66%). At present, Mitsubishi passenger cars are pro­duced in: Japan, the USA (since 1988), Holland (since 1995), Italy (since 1997), Brazil (since 2002), India (since 1998), China (since 2002), Thailand (since 1972), Indo­nesia (since 1971), the Philippines (since 1973), Taiwan (since 1978), and Australia (since 1971); and assembled in Colombia (since 1989), Venezuela (since 1990), Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Vietnam (since 1995). The pick-ups are produced in: Thailand, Indone­sia, Taiwan, the Philippines, South Africa and Brazil, and assembled in: Zimbabwe, Kenya and Malaysia. Under different makes, Mitsubishi passenger cars are produced under license in Korea (Hyundai H1), India (Mahindra Voyager), China (Liebao, Chenglong / Dongfeng, Don-gnan, Hafei) and Malaysia (Proton).

In 2003, in 27 countries, Mitsubishi pro­duced 1,357,605 passenger and utility vehicles (inclu­ding Dongnan, Liebao and Mitsubishi Fuso; excluding Mitsubishi vehicles produces under the following makes: Hafei, Dongfeng, Mahindra, Hyundai and Proton).
