In December 1994 two companies specializing in automotive electric systems - the Indian Maini Group and the American Amerigon Inc - formed Maini Amerigon C.C. company, holding 67% and 33% of the shares, respectively. (Since 1999 the company has been operating as Reva Electric Car Co.) In 1996 they unveiled the REVA EV Standard electric car, with a power plant generating 14.1 hp. The 2-seat vehicle, weighing 672 kg, can reach 65-120 km/h, with an 80-km range. Available since June 2001, it is made in 92% of Indian components. In 2002 the company's product range expanded with the introduction of the luxury and restyled version Classe and the Zephyr cabrio. The company intends to reach a production volume of 12,000 vehicles annually.
