Formed in 1994, Daimler and TELCO joint-venture
launched the production of the E-Class model in 1995. Since 2001 DaimlerChrysler concern has
been a 100%
owner
of the company. The original sedans E were replaced in 1997 by the next E-Class generation
(W210), and in November 2002 by the latest generation of the E-Class models (W211), which are available
with the following engines: a 1.8-liter 158 hp (E200 K), a 2.6-liter 167 hp (E240) and since
May 2004
also
with a CDI 2.7-liter 173 hp (E 270 CDI). At present, 70% of the components used for the production of the
Mercedes E-Class vehicles are made in India. In 2000 the company launched the
assembly of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (40% indigenous components), since 2003 available with a
3.7-liter 230 hp V6 unit. (S350L). In May 2001 the C-Class sedans went into production, later
restyled in 2004. Since 2003 the model has been available with a 1.8-liter 158 hp unit (C200 K) and
since 2004
also
with a 2.1-liter 141 hp diesel unit (C220 CDI).
