Established in 1945, Bajaj Group concern was
operating as Bachraj Trading Ltd. till the mid-1950s. In 1958 they formed Bajaj
Tempo joint-venture with the German company Tempo, which took over 26% of the company's
shares (till 2001 16.8% of the shares belonged to DaimlerChrysler). In April 2005 the company changed
its name to Force, which was also used on the company's products as the brand

name. Since 1968 Bajaj Tempo has been owned by
Firodia Company. In 1958 the company launched the production of Tempo commercial and passenger
auto rickshaws, the assembly of which started in India as early as 1951. They went out of
production in 2000. In 1997 a new 3-wheeled vehicle, the Minidor, was unveiled (499-ccm 9.5 hp). The same body
has been offered since 2002 on the hybrid, 7-seat Ultrador with a 72 V electric motor and
a booster 90-ccm 4.5 hp petrol engine. In 1964 4-wheeled delivery vans were launched, also under
license from Tempo, and in 1984 the company released the cross-country Trax, an
indigenously designed vehicle, which went into production in 1986. At present the
company's product range covers the following Trax models: Trax Roughroad Master
cabrio and station wagon (a short-bodied 3-door 6 /9-seater or a long-bodied
3-door 11
-seater),
Trax Cruiser (a long-bodied 5-door 10 /14-seat station wagon, available since 2001), Trax Challenger
cabrio (10
/14-seater
without doors), Trax Gurkha 4x4 cabrio and station wagon (a 3-door 7-seater or a
5-door 9-seater), Trax Judo / Trax Gama station wagon with a metal roof (a
5-door 10-seater, made since

3-door, 8-seat cabrio or station wagon; a medium-bodied 5-door, 9-seat station
wagon; a long-bodied 5-door, 13-seat station wagon), Trax Dual Cabin Pickup
(6-seater, made since 1999) and the classic Trax Pickup. Currently, the models
come with the following range of engines: D 2.4-liter 65 hp (Trax Roughroad Master,
Judo, Pickup), D 2.4-liter 68 hp (Gurkha), D 2.6-liter 54 hp (Challenger, Cruiser, Gama,
Pickup), TD 2.4-liter 56 hp (290 GTD versions) and turbodiesel 2.4-liter 90 hp (Judo, Gurkha).
In the years 1998-99 all Trax models underwent radical modernization, ending up with a
completely new front and rear. At the 2002 New Delhi Motor Show, the public saw the
premiere of the luxury, 5-seat Trax Baghira station wagon (TD 2.4-liter 68 hp) with a
completely altered front end. At the same motor show the company demonstrated a
"Hindu Hummer" - the 4-seat Juggernaut. The vehicle comes with a TD
3.2-liter 98 hp unit and has been available upon order since 2003. Delivery vans
included, the company produced a total of 11,179 four-wheeled vehicles in 2003. At the 2004 New Delhi Motor
Show, the public witnessed prototypes of a completely new cross-county vehicle
and a restyled Trax.
