Since 1993 the company has been designing vehicle bodies
for Mahindra, Bajaj Tempo, Ruby and other firms as well as manufacturing cars
in small quantities upon order, based on the following chassis: Tata, Maruti,
Mahindra, Hindustan, Bajaj Tempo, Toyota, Daewoo, Hyundai, Ford, Mercedes, Opel
and Premier. For the past few years DC Design has also been active in the field
of optical tuning. At present, the company's range of products comprises the
following: Gypsy Hardtop (a station wagon based on the Maruti Gypsy), Restyled
Premier (a 4-door sedan on the Premier Padmini chassis), Supermini (a restyled
Maruti Zen), Ra (a 2-door SUV based on the Maruti Gypsy, by 2002 eight such vehicles
had been built), BTS (a 2-door coupe with a centrally situated engine, based on
the Maruti 800), and Hawk (a 5-door off-road station wagon based on the Maruti Gypsy). In
1996 the following models
were introduced: Viva 4x4 (a cabrio 4x4 based on the Maruti Gypsy chassis) and Astra
Monza (an Opel Astra with altered front and rear end). In 1997 the program was
extended with the addition of the following two: Astra Touring (a radically
updated Opel Astra) and Karma (an off-road station wagon based on the Bajaj
Tempo Trax). At the 1998 New Delhi Motor Show, the public saw the premiere of the Phoenix
Ambassador (a 4-door sedan based on the Hindustan with the same name) and the
Arya (a 4x4
station
wagon on the Tata Sierra chassis; four such vehicles have been built till now).
In 1998
the
company introduced the following models: Cielo Stretch 780 MM (Daewoo Cielo stretched by 78 cm), Simulated
Vintage (a retro vehicle based on the Premier 118 NE), Estate RM5 (a coupe / cabrio based on the
Maruti Esteem). At the 1999 Mumbai Motor Show, the DC demonstrated the Vampire (a
roadster based on the Daewoo Cielo). At the end of 1999, the roadster Arka (based on the
Maruti Esteem) had its debut, and at the 2000 New Delhi Motor Show, the 2+2 coupe Zelo (based on
the Daewoo Cielo, by 2002 eighteen such vehicles had been made), the roadster Ikoncept 2003 (based on the Ford
Ikon, by 2002
twelve
such vehicles had been made) and the small, 3-seat L'il. In summer 2000 the company unveiled
the Maruti Wagon R Cubix Prokit and a stretched limousine based on the Opel
Astra I. Models introduced in 2001 include the following: Cento / Mantra based on the
Hyundai Santro, Isa on the Toyota Qualis chassis, Devago pick-up on the Maruti
Wagon R chassis, Matiz Targa based on Daewoo, E class 210 Stretch (a stretched Mercedes E
Class), R / Redesign-E class 240 C (a restyled Mercedes E Class), Yankee on the Bajaj
Tempo Trax chassis, Sciki based on the Maruti Zen. At the 2002 New Delhi Motor
Show, DC presented the aggressive coupe Infidel with a Toyota V6-3.0-liter
engine. Since 2003 the company's program has included: Camry Stretch (Skoda Octavia
stretched by 92 cm), Scorpio Stretch (Mahindra Scorpio stretched by 20 cm) and S class
Stretch (a stretched Mercedes-Benz S Class). The company's program also
includes optical Prokit tuning kits for the following makes: Maruti, Tata,
Hyundai, Daewoo, Fiat, Ford, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda and BMW. In 2003 they released tuned
Maruti Suzuki models: Zen DCX, Versa DCX, Esteem DCX and Tata Indica Ital. In 2001 DC presented the
final version of the small L'il with a 1.3-liter engine, the production
of which is scheduled to total 50,000 vehicles annually. In 2002 DC built a prototype of the
Aston Martin AM V8 Vantage, which was demonstrated in Detroit in 2003. At the 2003 Geneva Motor Show,
the aggressive coupe Gaia, based on the Mitsubishi Lancer with a 1.5-liter 215 hp unit, was
presented. Its production is planned for launch in Europe in 2006. At the 2004 Geneva Motor Show,
the company unveiled the coupe Go - a concept car based on the Noble M12 GTR3 with a
V6-2.5-liter 310 hp power plant. Prices: L'il - INR 150,000; Infidel - INR 2,500,000.
