The Mc Laren, existing since 1964, has mainly been
active in producing race cars. It did however released 20 M6 GT vehicles
designated for street use in 1969. Mc Laren manufactured 107 exemplars of the famous F1 coupe
in the years 1992-98. Daimler Benz took over 40% of Mc Laren shares in 2000. The SLR super coupe was first
presented by Mercedes at the 1999 Detroit Motor Show and then produced at Mc Laren
facility in Paragon, starting in October 2003. The car, equipped with a
5.4-liter 618 hp V8 power plant, reaches a top speed of 340 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Mc Laren
plans to produce a total of 500 SLRs a year.
