Valmet was established in 1968 as a joint venture
of Finnish capital and Swedish Saab. A year later the production of Saab 96 started in Finland.
In 1993
Saab
withdrew its investment and since then the Valmet company has been 100% locally owned. At
the Geneva 2003 Motor Show, Valmet unveiled the Ford Thunderbird Glass Roof concept car,
in Geneva 2004 - Audi A4 Coupe Cabrio, and in Geneva 2005 - the Raceabout 2005 roadster with a
2.0-liter engine. In the years 1969-2004 Valmet produced more than 1,000,000 vehicles of the
following makes: Saab (1969-2003), Talbot (1979-87), Opel (1991-97), Lada (1996-98) and Porsche (since 1997). In 2003 the
company
manufactured a total of 19,226 Porsche and Saab cars.
