Production volume in Spain in 2003 - 408,202 vehicles. In 1950 the Spanish INI
concern (51%),
Spanish
banks (42%)
and
Fiat (7%)
established
the firm named Seat, which in 1953 started the production of the Seat 1400 under the Fiat
license, like the majority of its
vehicles produced for the next 30 years. In 1981 Fiat withdrew from
this company. In 1984 Seat showed its first Spanish model named Ibiza. In 1986, Volkswagen took over
75% and in 1990 the remaining 25% of shares of the
Seat company. Nowadays, Seat vehicles are being made in Spain, Portugal (since 1996) and Slovakia (2003 - 2005). The former
version
of the Seat Cordoba (under the
name of VW Polo Classic) is being produced in
Argentina. Latest premieres: Geneva 2003 - Ibiza Cupra R; Barcelona 2003 - prototype of Cupra
GT; Frankfurt/Main 2003 -Altea; Geneva 2004 - Ibiza Cupra D; Madrid 2004 -Toledo Prototipo; Paris 2004 -Toledo III;
Barcelona 2005 - Leon II. Plans for the future: 2006 -Alhambra II. In 2003 Seat produced in three
countries 460,040 vehicles, including Inca vans.
