Car Distributors Assembly was established in 1948 and has assembled
the following vehicles: Nash, Fiat (since 1950), Renault (since 1953), Alfa Romeo (since 1962), Jaguar, Auto Union,
DKW, Land Rover, Commer, Hino, Prince and since 1958 also Mercedes-Benz. Formed in 1958, UCDD company (the
distributor of Mercedes-Benz cars in South Africa) took over in 1962 the majority, and in
1966 -
100% of
CDA factory shares. In 1984 Daimler-Benz acquired 50,1% of UCDD (since 1992 - 76,6%) and changed the
company’s name to Mercedes-Benz of
South Africa. The CDA factory also came under the name Mercedes-Benz of South
Africa in 1986, and in 1999 - DaimlerChrysler S. A. The production of the newest C-Class sedans,
available with the following engines: 1.8-liter 143 hp; 1.8-liter 163 hp; 3.0-liter 231 hp; 3.5-liter 272 hp; CDI 2.1-liter
150 hp; CDI 2.7-liter 170 hp or CDI 3.2-liter 224 hp, was launched in
South Africa in September 2000.
