Praetor Monteerders began the production of Glas 1700 sedans in 1968, offered under the name BMW 1800 SA / 1800 GL. In 1972 BMW took over the majority of the company’s shares and changed its name to BMW South Africa Ltd. Since 1974, 100% of the firm has been owned by the German head company. In 1983 the production of BMW 3-series E30 began, in 1990 - 3-series E36, in 1999 - 3- series E46, and in April 2005 - 3-series E90, equipped with the following engines: 2.0-liter 150 hp; 2.0-liter 156 hp diesel; 2.5-liter 218 hp or 3.0-liter 258 hp.
