Assembly volume in Venezuela in 2003 - 3,690 passenger vehicles and 352 pick-ups. In the year 1963, the Tocars C. A. company started in Venezuela the assembly of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40. In 1989, Toyota took over the majority of the Tocars’ shares and changed the latter’s name to Toyota de Venezuela in 1992. Since 1986, the Corolla vehicles have been built there, and since 2002 - the current Corolla VI generation, which comes with 1.6-liter 110 hp or 1.8-liter 136 hp engines and is identical to the model produced in the USA. The Land Cruiser Techo Duro (5, 7 or 11 -seat) and Techo Duro Pick-up, powered by a 4.5-liter 225 hp engine, are the Venezuelan co­unterparts of the Japan-made Land Cruiser FZJ 71/78.
