CAMI (a partnership of Suzuki and General
Motors) launched the production of the cross-country Sidekick model in April 1989. The Canadian Vitara
was produced between 1998 and 2004. CAMI also produces Chevrolet cars (50,964 vehicles produced in
2003 altogether), from
February 2004
being
the Equinox model. The Pontiac Torrent was included in the offer in 2005. A successor to the
cross-country Suzuki Vitara (GMT 191) is supposed to come out in 2005, while in 2006, a large SUV is
scheduled for release. Korean Daewoo cars under the Suzuki name have been sold
in Canada since 2003: the Swift+ hatchback, Forenza sedan (with a 2.0-liter 119 hp engine), Verona
sedan (with a 2.5-liter 155 hp plant), and since 2004 - Reno hatchback (with a
2.0-liter 126 hp unit).
