Production volume in the USA in 2003 - 783,587 passenger cars and 267,229 pick-ups. In October
1957, Toyota started the
sale of its cars in the USA. In 1971, it started the assembly of pick-ups in Los Angeles. In
December 1984,
the 50% - 50% Toyota and GM - NUMMI company
started the production of
the Toyota Corolla. The plant has also been
producing, since 1995, the Tacoma pick-up, since 2001 - the Voltz minivan, and since 2001 - the Pontiac Vibe.
In September 1996, the Toyota Motor North America Inc. was established, and has been
coordinating all the concern’s activities in the
USA since. The third Toyota plant in the USA - TMMK in Georgetown, Kentucky,
has been producing the Toyota Camry since May 1998. In February 1999, at the fourth TMMI
plant in Princeton, Indiana, the production of the Tundra pick-up began, and in
2000 - of the Sequoia SUV
The fifth TMMTX plant in San Antonio, Texas, will start the production of a new
Tundra in 2006. Earlier, the TMMBC plant in Baja California in Mexico started in
December 2004

production of the new Tacoma.
