In October 1985, Mitsubishi and Chrysler established
the Diamond Star Motor Corporation. In September 1988, the company started the
production of the Mitsubishi Eclipse cars. In the years 1989-92, the Mirage was
produced. In October 1991, Mitsubishi increased its share in DSMC to 100% and in July 1995 became Mitsubishi
Motor Manufacturing of America (since 2003, Mitsubishi Motors North America
Inc.). The company has also been producing sports models for Chrysler and Dodge
since 1989,
since 2000 these have been the
Chrysler Sebring Coupe and the Dodge Stratus Coupe.
