Ford cars were manufactured in Turkey as early
as 1929-44.
In 1959 Otosan launched the
production of utility vehicles under license from Ford. Till 1965 they also assembled
the Ford Taunus T17M sedans, and in the years 1966-84 released various
models of the Anadol passenger cars. In 1997 Ford increased its 30% stake in Otosan to 41% and changed the
company’s name to Ford Otosan. 41% of the company’s shares still belongs to the KOC Group, owner of
Otokar, Karsan and major share-holder of Otoyol. In the years 1985-93 the Ford Taunus came
off the company’s production lines, and in the
years 1993-99
- the
Ford Escort. At the 2002 Madrid Motor Show the 5-seat Tourneo Connect minivan was presented,
since summer 2002 in production only in Turkey. It houses a 1.8-liter 116 hp petrol engine or
a 1.8-liter 75-90 hp diesel unit.
