Production volume in Thailand in 2003 - 98,687 passenger vehicles and 108,850 pick-ups. The company, 60% of whose shares are currently owned by Toyota, was set up in 1962. In February 1964 the assembly of the following Toyota mo­dels was started: Publica and Tiara passenger cars, Stout pick-ups and Dyna and DA trucks. At present, the company employs an average of 80% of locally-produced parts. Launched in 1996, the original Soluna sedan was replaced with the So­luna Vios in 2002. The model is available with a 1.5-liter 109 hp unit, and since 2004 also with a tur­bo 1.5-liter 143 hp engine. In April 2001 the company introduced the completely new Corolla Altis sedan (based on the Japanese Corolla 2000), updated in 2003 and fitted with a 1.6-liter 110 hp or a 1.8-liter 136 hp power plant. The Camry sedan, included in the product range since 1999, gave way to the new Camry in 2002. The model was restyled in May 2004. It is available with a 2.4-liter 152 hp or a 2.0-liter 144 hp engine. The Wish minivan followed at the end of 2003, equipped with a 2.0-liter 150 hp unit. Since 1998 the company’s program has comprised the 6 /7-seat Sport Rider SUV, with aTD 2.5-liter 102 hp or a TD 3.0-liter 125 engine, based on the Hilux pick-up. The new Fortuner SUV premiered in November 2004. Launched in 1998, the Hilux pick-up was replaced with the new Hilux Vigo in August 2004. The model is available with the following engines: 2.5-liter 120 hp, TD 2.5-li­ter 102 hp and TD 3.0-liter 163 hp across the range, which subdivides into the 4-door Double Cab 4x2/4x4, the 2+2 X-Tra Cab 4x2/4x4 and the 2-seat Standard Cab 4x2.
