Production volume in Thailand in 2003 - 8,640 passenger vehicles and 90,780 pick-ups. Established in 1964, UDMI started the production of Mitsubishi trucks in 1966, the Galant sedans in 1972, and the L 200 pick-ups in 1981. From 1965 60% of the company’s shares belonged to Mitsu­bishi. In 1987 UDMI merged with Sittipol (from 1961 Mitsubishi distributor in Thailand), forming MMC Sittipol. In 2001 Mitsubishi increased its stake in the company from the original 46.2% to 99.9%, and in November 2003 changed its name to Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co. Ltd. At the Bangkok Motor Show in March 2004, the public witnessed the debut of the new Lancer, identical to the Japanese Lan­cer from 2003, fitted with the following selection of engines: 1.6-liter 108 hp, 1.8-liter 123 hp and 2.0-liter 135 hp. Since 2001 the company has produced the original Strada G-Wagon SUV, restyled in December 2004. Equipped with a TD 2.8-liter 125 hp engine, the vehicle is based on the Strada pick-up. In October 2004 Thai facilities launched the production of the Grandis minivan (2.4-liter 165 hp), marketed as the Space Wagon. The Strada / L 200 4x4/4x2 pick up was introduced in 1995, upda­ted in 2002 and replaced with the second generation in 2004. It is available in the following versions: the 5-seat Club Cab / Mega Cab, the 4-door, 5-seat Double Cab / Grandis (2.0-liter 95-116 hp, 2.4-liter 132-145 hp, diesel 2.5-liter 78-88-90 hp, TD 2.5-liter 115-133 hp, diesel 2.8-liter 97-101 hp, TD 2.8-liter 125 hp, 3.0-liter 181 hp V6). The L 200 are exported all over the world, except North Ame­rica. In June 2005 the company initiated the production of the Triton / L 200 III generation pick-up, with 4x2/4x4 drive and a TD 2.5-liter 133 hp or a TD 3.2-liter 175 hp engine.
