In 1991 VW took over the BAZ manufacturing plant, which produced the Skoda Coupe/Rapid in 1982-91. The assembly of the VW Passat began in 1992. The popular Polo hatchback has been produced there since 1999 with its IV generation model to roll-off the production line in 2001. The VW Golf IV Variant 4-Motion (in Slovakia only) and Golf IV Variant have been manufactured since 2000. In 2002 the exclusive production of the Touareg SUV began. The production of Bora 4-Motion and Bora Variant 4-Motion was terminated in August 2003, and in January 2004 - of Golf IV and Golf IV 4-Motion models. The Golf IV R32 was produced In Slovakia from 2002 till May 2004. The Golf V was assembled from the end of 2003 until January 2004. In the years 2003-05 the Seat Ibiza was also produced in Slovakia.
