In 1927 Volvo company began production of its first model ÖV 4 Jacob, with trucks to follow a year later. On the 1 st
of January 1973, Volvo took over 33% of the shares of DAF
company’s passenger car department; increasing it in 1975 to 75%, and producing the
Volvo cars there in the
years 1975-2004.
In
January 1999
Ford
bought Volvo’s passenger cars division, and
by integrating that department with Lincoln, Jaguar and Aston Martin, Ford
company established a new branch called Premier Automotive Group. At present
Volvo vehicles are produced in Sweden, Belgium (since 1951) and the Netherlands (1975-2004), and assembled in
Thailand, Malaysia (since 1968) and South Africa (since 2000). Latest premieres: Paris 2002 - S60R, V60; Geneva 2003 - VCC

car; Birmingham 2004 - a restyling of S60 / V70 / XC70; October 2004 - 3CC concept car. In 2004 production of the
models S40 Classic and V40 Classic was terminated in the Netherlands. Plans for
the future: 2005 - a new C70 Cabrio, XC50 4x4; 2006
- a small C30 (based on the 3CC of 2004) and V30, new V90 and
S80 models; 2007 - XC60 4x4; 2009 - a new XC90. In 2003 Volvo produced 416,329 passenger cars in six countries.
