Established in 1976, Oltcit 64% state-owned with 36%

of its shares belonging to Citroën, produced Oltcit in

1981-93, and in 1993-95 the Oltena vehicles. In 1991 Citroën withdrew from Romania and the company was renamed Automobile Craiova S. A. In 1994 a new joint--venture company emerged, this time with Daewoo (51% of shares), which was named Rodae, and in 1996 - Daewoo Automobile Romania. In March 1996 the

production of the Daewoo Cielo (= Nexia) started, cur­rently equipped with a 1.5-liter 86 hp engine (175 km/h). Since 1998 the Matiz I (796-ccm 51 hp engine) and Nubira (1.6-liter 106 hp unit) have also been produced. In the years 1998-2002 the Leganza model was assem­bled, and in 2002 - the minivan Tacuma.
