Buana Indonesia joint venture with GM (40%-60%) in September 1993. In November 1997 GM increased its
share in the company to 100%, whose name was changed in 1998 to PT General Motors Indonesia.
This firm began assembling the Opel Vectra in 1994, rolled out Opel Optima (=Astra
I) sedans in the years 1995-99 and the Opel Blazer (=American Blazer) from 1995-2002. Since 2002 Blazer SUVs have
been produced here, for the first time under the Chevrolet trademark. Both the
Blazer, fitted with a 2.2-liter 114 hp or 2.2-liter 138 hp engine, and a spartan
version of the Blazer Montera with a 2.2-liter 114 hp power plant are based on the
Brazilian Blazer made in 2000. Since 2002 the Tavera minivan, equipped with a 2.2-liter 114 hp unit (identical
to the Isuzu Panther) has been built by PT Pantja Motor. In the years 2002-05 the Zafira minivan
was assembled and the firm is also involved in the sale of Korean Chevrolet
Spark and Aveo vehicles as well as the Thai Optra sedan.
