The Japanese Hino, together with Taiwan’s Hotai Motor, established Kuozui in 1984. In 1986 Toyota joined the
venture, with current shares as follows: Toyota 25%, Hino 22%, and Taiwanese Hotai and Hoyu 53%. The production of a
7-seat passenger minivan called Zace started in June 1988. The model was replaced by the
Zace Surf model in 1998, and in 2000 - by the Zace VX. After being restyled in 2003, the vehicle is called Zace
Surf, and is available either as the VX-4, VX, GL, DX or STD (1.8-liter 83 hp or 2.4-liter 116 hp engines), or as a
pick-up version, equipped with a 1.8-liter 83 hp unit - the Zace Surf. In 2003 the production of
the Vios sedan, furnished with a 1.5-liter 109 hp power plant (identical to the Japanese Vios 2002), began. The Corolla
Altis sedan (= the Japanese Corolla 2000), which debuted in 2001 and was restyled in October 2004, is also offered and
comes with 1.6-liter
110 hp or 1.8-liter 136 hp engines. The
Camry, produced since 2000, was replaced by its new sedan version in 2002 (restyled in April 2004), and is available
with 2.0-liter 144 hp or 3.0-liter 212 hp power plants (based on the Camry 2001 model). In September
2004 the company started
the production of the Wish minivan, equipped with a 2.0-liter 150 hp unit. Hiace
Solemio is actually the Japanese Hiace Export minivan, available with a
2.7-liter 143 hp plant.
