Production volume in Taiwan in 2003 - 67,656 passenger vehicles. The company, established in 1969 (18.9% shares belongs to Mitsubishi), has produced Mitsubishi trucks since 1973. In 1978 the production of Minicab minivans began, and in 1985 - of the Towny hatchbacks. In 1988 a 5-door, 5-seat 4x2/4x4 CMC Varica minivan debuted, equipped with a 1.2-liter 73 hp engine. In 2001 a new, 7-seat Veryca model, furnished with a 1.2-liter 73 hp power plant and a restyled version of Veryca Magic (1.6-liter 105 hp engine), were introduced. liter 110 hp or 1.8-liter 140 hp) and Virage iO (1.8-liter 140 hp). In 2003 these vehicles were re-styled and now resemble the 2003 Japanese Mit­subishi Lancer. The Galant, produced since 1998, was replaced in December 2004 by the new, ori­ginal Galant Grunder sedan, available with a 2.4-liter 162 hp unit. The Taiwanese Space Gear (2.4-liter 132 hp) debuted in 1997. In 2001 the com­pany’s offer was expanded by the Savrin minivan, restyled in June 2004, and designed on the basis of the Japanese Space Wagon, which comes with a 2.0-liter 150 hp power plant. In October 2002 the Savrin Inspire was launched, which was restyled in September 2004 and furnished with a new front end and a 2.0-liter 150 hp engine. The 5 /7-seat passenger Freeca minivans and pick-ups, manufac­tured since 1997, are equipped with a 2.0-liter 114 hp power plant and underwent restyling in 2001 and December 2003. In 2005, China Motor will acquire the production of the Chrysler Voyager.
