Besides producing its own models, McLaughlin Motor Car Co. started the licensed
production of Chevrolet cars in December 1915. In 1918 this famous Canadian company
merged with General Motors USA. Since then, GM Canada has been producing the
most Chevrolet cars. At present, they are the new Impala (since 2005), new Monte Carlo
(since 2005)
and
Silverado pick-up (since 1998). Since 1989, a partnership of Suzuki and GM, called CAMI, has been
producing Geo vehicles, whose name was changed to Chevrolet in 1997. Between 1998 and 2004, this was the II
generation Tracker and now, since February 2004 - the Equinox SUV. The Metro
hatchback was produced in the years 1989-2001, in the years 1994-2001 - the Lumina sedan,
and from 1997
to 2002 - the Camaro coupe.
The Impala, Monte Carlo and Equinox models are produced exclusively in Canada.
Daewoo cars under Chevrolet make have been sold in Canada since 2003, including the Aveo
(with a 1.6-liter 105 hp engine), Optra (a
2.0-liter 119 hp plant) and Epica (a 2.5-liter 155 hp unit). General Motors also
produced cars in Canada under different makes: the Oldsmobile (1905–07, 1920-69, 1974-91), Oakland (1921-31), Cadillac (1923-
36, 1976-78), La Salle (1927-30, 1932-35) and Acadian (1961-71).
