joint
venture between Toyota and Tianjin Automobile Xiali, established in November 1999 (since 2003, the company has been
owned by the FAW concern) has, since October 2002 been manufacturing Vios sedans
with 1.5-liter 92 hp engines on the
basis of the 2002 Thai Soluna Vios. Since February 2004, the company has been
manufacturing Corolla sedans with 1.8-liter 136 hp power plants, based on the 2001 Thai Corolla. The
Crown sedan, fitted with a 3.0-liter 231 hp V6 engine, presented at the 2004 Beijing Motor Show,
has been manufactured in Tianjin since March 2005. Equipped with a 3.0-liter 231 hp V6 unit, the Raiz
sedan, based on the Japanese Toyota Mark X and presented at the Shanghai Show
in 2005,
has
been produced in Tianjin since October 2005. A FAW branch, established in 2003 under the name of
FAW Fengyue Co., Ltd, has, since October 2003, been manufacturing Land Cruiser
100 SUVs with 4.5-liter 211 hp or 4.7-liter 238 hp V8 engines. The
company will begin assembling Prius sedans in 2005. In September 2004, Guangzhou Toyota
Motor Co. company was founded, which will begin manufacturing Camry vehicles
beginning from 2006. In 2010, Toyota is planning to launch 400,000 vehicles in China.
